*Hi *

Hi

I want to talk a bit about music. Music is a very important part of my life. Not making it obviously, I dont have a talent for that, or for much else really. But I love music and there is nothing that can lift your spirits when you are down like a song that reminds you of happier times. The flip side of that is nothing can ruin your mood quicker that hearing a song that you associate with someone who is no longer in your life or one that you remember from an unhappy time in your life.
There are songs that i hear that remind me of people I love or hate and instantly wheni hear that song that person is on my mind. There are songs i hear that remind me of people from here even. When i hear troublemaker by weezer i instantly think of Lavi, or if i hear Yellow by Cold Play i think of Jurgen. That kind of thing.
What brought all this up was i heard the song Nothingman by Pearl Jam and it reminds me of a very bad night, possibly the worst night of my life.
It was April 25, 1995. I was at a party for the hockey team that all my friends played on. I had enough to drink, more than enough and had planned at sleeping at Tims house instead of driving home. But i was playing in a golf tournament the next day and was afraid i wouldnt get up in time if i wasnt at home. So i decided to drive home. Big mistake, huge in fact. I fell asleep at the wheel and had a wreck. Somehow i got off the freeway and hit a curb. I woke up when the car became airborne. I saw the stars in the windsheild and was in shock. Then i saw the ground come up and instinct i guess told me to brace myself for impact, if i had had a few seconds to think about it or been sober i would have curled up, but i put my feet against the firewall, right at the point of impact. The car crashed into the ground nose first. I lost consciousness. When i came to, i had no idea how badly i was hurt. I tried to start the car but couldnt push the clutch in because my left foot was crushed. I pushed the horn until the battery went dead. The drivers side window exploded on impact, lucky for me or i might have bled to death. i tried to crawl out the window but couldnt get enough leverage to get out. It was dark outside and i couldnt see anything around me, in the rearview mirror i could see the lights of a store but it was very far away. no other lights were visible anywhere, i had no idea where i was and this was before cell phones were so common. I was able to make my way to the back seat and lie down but the car was at such an angle that i kept rolling out of the seat into the floor. I wasnt in as much pain as i would be later i guess because of all the liquor i had consumed. I was finally able to wedge myself behind the drivers seat with my legs kicked over the back of the seat and passed out. No one came. The next morning I was awakened by a man knocking on my window. He asked me if i was okay and when i turned around i must've looked horrible because he took one look at me and ran for a phone, as i watched him run away i lost all self control, i hadnt panicked until then. As he is running to the parking lot a bunch of army men got out of a truck. I had landed in a field where the texas national guard does theor weekend manuevers. One of them a man named dan from austin texas was able to get a door open and got in the back seat with me and stayed until the ambulance got there.
The ambulance arrived and the paramedic told me the car had been airborne for 125 feet.
I crushed my left foot, broke my right ankle, broke me sternum in three places, bruised my heart, had three broken ribs, a concussion and various cuts and bruises. I was in the hospital for two weeks, had two surgeries. But the thing that i keep remembering is that the last thing i remember hearing was Pearl Jam and the song nothing man.

Just a quick blog saying hi to all my fellow Rossi Followers and Moto Gp lovers!! I've been a Rossi fan ever since his start in the 125cc class which was in around 1996 if I'm not mistaken.
I've been going to the Gp at Phillip Island for the past 6 years. It's the one and only thing i wait for all year!!
I believe this weekend that just passed was absolutely sensational although, we did not win i feel like i saw the old Rossi back in full swing and when i say the old Rossi what i mean is, the I saw the Mind game playing never assume anything Rossi. Basically the Rossi that used to do Biaggi's and Setes brain in!! I believe we got a glimpse of whats to come next year!! I believe the Doctor will complete Stoner's surgery next year without a single hesitation!! hahaha

Hi guys

as most of you know my husband is not my favorite person most of the time. However, today i was in a most disagreeable mood, and shockingly enough, he is the one who got me out of it.
He works at a hospital in the engineering department, or facilities management or plant operations, whatever they are calling it this week. Basically he is one of the men who keep the hospital in working order. David, yes his name isnt really asshead, is very talented when it comes to construction/painting/carpentry/furniture refinishing etc..so the higher ups at the hospital have discovered that it is way cheaper to pay him his hourly rate and do these "special projects" than to hire contractors to come in to do them.
Anyway, a "special project" came up and David was assigned to do it. There are two chairs that belong in the CEO's office that had just been re-upholstered, and now the CEO wanted them refinished, which just goes to show how bright these people are (believe me i know, there is a reason i no longer work at the hospital), any idiot knows you should refinish the chair first then re-upholster it. When he picks up the chairs he is informed that the cost of re-upholstering these chairs is already at almost $1000 USD, the fabric was somewhere in the neighborhood of 75.00 a yard (and its ugly according to David). So he was advised not to get the refinishing stuff (varnish, finish whatever the hell its called) on the fabric. He explained that it might have been advisable to refinish them first but apparently got the same deer in the headlight look usually seen on Dani Pedrosa's face.
So he has been refinishing the $1000 chairs slowly and carefully.
So what does this have to do with corporate america?
Well, the engingeering department head called a brief meeting today to let his staff (there are 5 of them) know that due to budget cuts they were being asked to take voluntary time off unpaid.
After Davids head exploded, figuratively of course, he said should he take time off before or after he finished with the $1000 chairs?
His boss asked what he was talking about, and David explained that the chairs he was refinishing for the CEO of the hospital had already cost $1000 to reupholster. After his boss's head exploded (figuratively again) he marched straight down to the CEO's office, unfinished chairs in hand, put them in the CEO's office and turned to walk out, the CEO stopped him and asked why he was bringing unfinished chairs back to his office. Marshall, (Davids boss) replied that due to budget constraints his department was now short staffed and any "special projects" were indefinately suspended. As the CEO's head exploded, Marshall walked out of the office.
Gotta love it when your boss used to be you!

I havent blogged in a few days cuz i have been sick. Feeling better now, so i thought i would blog about the YC. I have only been a member here since May so i havent gone through a winter break here or anything but i have a feeling it gets very quiet around here. I have noticed that even during the no race weekends it really slacks off, hell it slacks off everynight for me...the time zones suck. Hopefully if/when i move to the UK it will even out a bit. But i digress, what i am hoping is that i am wrong, i dont know if i can stand an off season like i had last year, no racing news, no one to talk to about racing etc....Anyway, i just hope this place doesnt become a ghost town during the winter, that would really be a let down.
wow what a weak blog tonight, but i have been sick so its to be expected

Tonight we are discussing rivalries, of the sports variety of course!
I wouldnt go so far as to say that the Vale/Casey rivalry is one of the greatest of all time, it certainly hasnt reached Vale/Biaggi or Vale/Gibernau status yet but is is shaping up to be one for the ages.
But i was thinking about rivalries and did some research into some of the biggest.
Here in the States we have several, here are some of the best ones:
Dallas Cowboys vs Washington Redskins, even beyond the natural rivalry you would have because of the team mascots (cowboys and indians) These are two teams who detest eachother. They have both gone through different owners, players and coaches, but the one constant has always remained, mutual hate, the fans hate eachother, the teams hate eachother...there is no middle ground. You cannot take or leave the Redskins if you are a Cowboys fan and vice versa.
The New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox, Baseball is the most old-fashioned game in the books. While many great rivalries have emerged throughout the years, none compare to that of the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. The decades of history between these two teams are amazing and unmatched. Legend dates this rivalry back to the day when the Red Sox sold their pitcher Herman "Babe" Ruth to the Yankees (which can be considered one of the greatest mistake of the 20th century). Young Babe went on to become the greatest home run hitter of his time, hence the Red Sox have felt "the Curse of the Bambino" ever since.
For years I argued that this was a feud and not a rivalry. The definition of the word "rivalry" is a competition between equals. You could call it a "blood feud", but I argued it could not be called a rivalry because it was more like an 87 year ass kicking. Then it happened. The Red Sox won. And not only did the Red Sox win, but they made the biggest comeback in professional sports history by rallying to beat the Yankees 4-3 last season. I still consider it more a historical feud than rivalry, but the recent Red Sox victory has at least tilted the scales on this historical massacre. Therefore it moves into the rivalry countdown.
Oklahoma vs Texas, The Red River Shootout has to get mentioned, as it is one of the best rivalries in college football. What I love about this game is how it is always played on a neutral field.
Bjorn Borg vs John McEnroe, The crafty Swede vs. the fiery American, this head to head clash provided some of the greatest moments in the history of tennis. Borg, much like Federer today, was a machine, seeming unflappable and nearly mistake free while beating his opponents. McEnroe was the opposite, seemingly in a perpetual flap, yet able to channel enough of his energy to stay in the battle, taking risks to win big points.
Manchester United vs. Liverpool, I dont know much about this one, but it kept coming up in my searches, so i have to mention it, These two club teams are the all time leaders in the history of English club football, racking up 74 trophies between them (Liverpool - 40, Man U - 34). The rivalry between the two teams is so intense that no player has been transferred between the two clubs in more than 40 years.
Montreal Canadiens vs. Toronto Maple Leafs, These two foes have been battling since 1917, capturing 35 Stanley Cups between them in that time. Some of the greatest players in hockey history have dueled one another over the 9 decades these teams have been clashing, and a Saturday night matchup between these two storied franchises brings the nation to a halt as Canadians everywhere stop what they are doing to watch the latest chapter in this ongoing feud.
So wether its a rivalry or a fued, none can say that they dont make the sports we love a little more loveable!
