DE PUNIET UNDERGOES SURGERY AHEAD OF BRITISH GRAND PRIX
Randy de Puniet will head for Donington Park with a much-improved left knee, after undergoing microsurgery to remove coagulated blood and blood clots from the injured joint, which he sustained in a crash at Mugello.
The 26-year-old Kawasaki pilot raced through the pain barrier with the injury at Catalunya, after doctors at the Clinica Mobile were unable to reduce the swelling in the knee, which forced de Puniet to add an extra 10cm to the left leg of his leather suit to accommodate the injury.
On the Tuesday after the Catalunya race de Puniet underwent microsurgery, during which 30cc of coagulated blood and several blood clots were removed from the knee. The doctor who performed the operation confirmed that there was no additional damage to the joint and the Frenchman was released from hospital the same day.
The Kawasaki rider will resume his normal physical training regime as of Sunday, and he is confident that the knee injury will cause him no problems during the British Grand Prix at Donington Park.
After his amazing ride to fifth place in Catalunya, de Puniet is hopeful of continuing the momentum through to the next race at Donington, the scene of his last win in the 250cc class back in 2005.
