Default Kimi Raikkonen - 05.04.2008, 15:52

We don't have any thread about Kimi... so I opened this one...

____

Raikkonen admits to MotoGP envy.

Friday, 4th April 2008

Is Finn the next man to try two-wheeled switch-over?

Following in the wheeltracks of fellow Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher, Kimi Raikkonen has admitted his desire to try out a MotoGP bike – though like the German, he insisted if he does it will be merely a toe-in-the-water exercise and nothing more.

Schumacher first tried out a two-wheeled machine at Mugello aboard Ducati's 990cc Desmosedici back in 2005, before taking to the controls of Casey Stoner's world title-winning Ducati Desmosedici GP7 at Valencia last November, lapping impressively just five seconds shy of the pace.

He then went on to finish an eye-catching fourth on his competitive debut in a minor KTM race at Misano last weekend. Now his Ferrari successor has hinted he would maybe like to follow suit one day.

“I only saw some pictures of Michael racing,” international news agency Reuters quotes Raikkonen as having told reporters in Bahrain, “but I don't know anything about it. I have never tried road racing. I have done motocross often and that is more normal for me, but for sure I want to try MotoGP bikes at least once.”

Seven-time F1 king Schumacher - who set the second-fastest lap of the race at Misano - made his third appearance on a Ducati MotoGP bike, at Mugello on Thursday, an experience he confessed to being 'a lot of fun'.

“It was a nice surprise when I received the sudden offer to come to Mugello,” said the 39-year-old. “Despite the difficult weather conditions it was again a lot of fun to ride the Ducati, but I repeat very clearly that I have no intention at all of stepping into any kind of MotoGP competitions.”

Just a little info if you're interested

I just read that there's gonna be a biography written about Kimi. Some finnish guy will write it and apparently it's gonna be published this year.

I understand what you mean... but I'm not sure if Kimi is that "cold" even more now that he starts to laugh ...

For sure east! They have a nice smile (Alvaro does too ) but none of them can beat Vale's one!

Kimi: I won't be surprised if BMW win this year.

Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen has said that he can definitely see the BMW Sauber F1 team winning one or more races this year.

BMW took the lead in the constructors' championship following the event in Bahrain last weekend and Kimi now believes the balance of power between the 'top three' will shift from event to event.

"I wouldn't be surprised if BMW won some races this year," confirmed the 'Ice-man'. "There will be grand's prix where we will be stronger and others where they will have an advantage; the same is true for McLaren-Mercedes, who remain very competitive."

F1 heads to Spain's Circuit de Catalunya next and Kimi has promised that Ferrari will do everything possible to take another one-two.

"After the first three races we're now heading back to Europe. I can't wait to race in Barcelona, where we're also having some tests over the next week," he continued.

"We'll give it all to remain ahead of our competitors."

As for round three, Kimi, while not pleased to have to settle for the runners-up spot behind his team-mate, Felipe Massa, was philosophical about not winning.

"Coming in second left me a bit disappointed. Sometimes certain weekends are just like that though and the one in Bahrain was one of them," he added.

"For one reason or the other the Sakhir circuit does not seem to be very favourable to me.

"But there's still some satisfaction at the end of this GP: I'm leading the Drivers' Championship. When we think about how many points we gained in Melbourne this is a great result.

"The worst part of the weekend was the Qualifying and then the start; I had Felipe in front of me and I knew that I couldn't lead a trump. The BMWs were very close. I managed to pass Kubica, when he had some trouble: this was an important moment, because his race rhythm was very good. In the end I already said that in this season it will be very hard to gain every single place. It will be a very long and tough Championship," he concluded.
