The idea is to make it easier for upcoming talent to be able to race in the MotoGP class, at first from club racing and progressing up through the classes until they make the premier class (MotoGP).
so how does replacing the 250cc bikes with 600cc's make it any easier to progress up the ranks.....does this mean that the 125's are soon to be replaced? I mean how can a rider go from racing a 125cc bike to a 600cc without there being big problems for them?

Yes I remember that......and what is the manufacturer struggling to keep up with the front runners in the 250's? Honda???!!
Could this just be down to good old fashioned backhanders given to the right people? Let's face it remember when Vale left Honda for Yamaha and then there was changes made to the premier class then......Vale said he remembered seeing a Honda bike that was all hush hush and being hidden....it just so happened that Honda didn't reckon on the other manufacturers actually working their butts off and getting together a better bike than they'd already been developing in the background a year or 2 before anyone else.

Gotta make you think hasn't it.

Ooooh, yes, makes you think!

It's all shifty! VERY SHIFTY!

Obviously Honda have a very firm grip of Dorna's balls or something. And their PR people obviously have to do a better job of coming up with the reasons for the ditching of 250s to be replaced by 600s... cause as everyone seems to agree... to make the leap to motogp easier... yeah, right... but what about the leap from 125s to 600s?

And they are at dreadful risk of out-entertaining motogp... Imagine? ALl the motogp riders trying to get a ride in the 600s? LOL.

It's taken one and a half racing seasons, but finally, Rossi has broken Stoner... and smashed him like a guitar!

I think it sucks that the 250's are leaving why cant they make a 400 or something simialr instead? 250's have been around for years... Its going to be sad to see them go.

VALE THIS IS YOUR YEAR 2008!!!

I don't like this idea too.
But we shouldn't say anything about this before we see it..
Maybe it'll be more interesting, who knows.

I'm glad everyone thinks its not a good idea. To bad we cant do anything about it. I think with the 250's leaving the whole idea off racing for a spot in the motogp class is gone of course there will be another class but thats not the same or is it?

Grand Prix Commission provide update on 600cc class plans

Saturday, 27 September 2008
Following a Grand Prix Commission meeting at Motegi on Saturday the FIM have announced some changes to the Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix Regulations.

The Grand Prix Commission, composed of Messrs. Carmelo Ezpeleta (Dorna, Chairman), Claude Danis (FIM), Herve Poncharal (IRTA) and Takanao Tsubouchi (MSMA), in the presence of Mr. Paul Butler (Secretary of the meeting), in a meeting held today at the A-Style Grand Prix of Japan, unanimously decided to introduce the following changes to the FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix Regulations.
125cc class - Teams may present only one motorcycle per rider in the 125cc class for Technical Control (as from 1.1.2009).
Future of the 250cc class - MSMA decided unanimously to propose to the Grand Prix Commission the following as from 2011: 4-stroke, 4-cylinder maximum, 600cc maximum engines, free chassis. A detailed proposal will be studied by the other members of the Commission.

yes, I agree with Ivonn. yes, in the end it's all about money, but before money there's another important step: people watching motoGP. so after all it's even a decision for the people (the majority at least).

600cc would attract more bike lovers because a lot of them actually drive 600cc, and they'd feel more related (even though a 250cc GP would give them 10 seconds each lap, but that doesn't really seem to count).

250cc hasn't market today: when you can drive a 250 you can drive a 600 or a 1000 too, so why not going with a 600?

yes, I think it sucks having 125, 600 and 800, but on the other hand I'm happy a 600 class will help to attract more viewers whom today are more into lesser categories (AMA, superbike, supersport etc).
