Rossi turns blue for Italian football team.

Following a special helmet design at his home Italian Grand Prix, Valentino Rossi's YZR-M1 will carry a one-off livery for this weekend's Catalan Grand Prix in celebration of the European Football Championships, which begin on Sunday.

The MotoGP World Championship leader's Fiat Yamaha has been specially painted in the style of the shirts of the Italian national team, the 'Azzurri', ahead of their opening game against Holland on Monday.

Rossi will also wear leathers designed in the same vein and even his famous number 46 has undergone a change for the weekend.

"Yes we have different colours on the bike because Fiat want to show [support] for the Italian football team," said Rossi. "The European championship starts on Saturday but Italy plays on Monday. I like the bike; it is blue like the Italian jersey. It is quite good."

The livery will be officially unveiled on Friday morning at the Montmelo circuit.

Thanks for the articles! I can't wait to see the new livery!

I hold on my phone Valentino theme with 2005 bike rather than fiat yamaha.
How cute is his outfit?

When I first saw the pink bits, I just thought, oh, pretty, then I realised that the pink is meant to represent skin... so the blue looks cut off, like a football uniform. Obviously Rossi has decided to be a ginger football player, with skintone like that!

And of course... number 46... for some reason, hadn't occurred to me that he would use his own racing number... mmmm.

Yeah, and camel cigarettes suck, too. I once did a test group for them when they were launching their new brand of filtered smokes... ghastly. I smoke Dunny Blue... a totally smooth, nice fag. But trying to fill in the form... trying to tell them... just rough, nasty tasting.... very tedious.

The yellow made him look like a giant texta.

I, too, am a fan of the gauloises blue... but already the single colour looks a bit dated... sort of a seventies look to it. The fiat design is more modern.

Soooo, Jorge, who's new name is Lorenzillo, is definitely sporting the biggest gravel collection now. That Dani got jealous and thought he'd add to his... I think it's the michelin front end enabling them to get stuck into the geology.

Anyone watch the motogp.com coverage... and notice the little moment when Valentino at the end, in the back of his pit box again, was looking at the screen as Uccio was earnestly trying to tell him something. Valentino saw he was being broadcast so made a point of waving to the cameras... anyone notice Uccio's reaction? Testy to say the least. Subtle, but testy nonetheless. He had to cut short what he was saying and got this really peeved expression, and stepped away from Valentino... who was in the middle of giving a very prolonged wave to the camera...

If I was a body language expert, I would think times might be a bit... well, testy... between them. Perhaps Valentino's wins have made him a bore to live with? LOL.

It's taken one and a half racing seasons, but finally, Rossi has broken Stoner... and smashed him like a guitar!

Valentino Rossi: The smartest, cleverest, bestest, hottest, sexiest, sweetest, finest f**ker on the planet today.
2007... it's still gonna get it's ass kicked!
2007... it's HISTORY!

the practises are fine, seems like pedrosa is too quick this weekend. they will be very close probably in quali., will be interesting

thats too bad for jorge, now the hand injury plus to the old ones. just hope he'll be there tomorrow on his bike

He is set for another record, this time it's Stoners. Colecting gravel in the rookie season.
Really he needs to slow down on that bike. It's to strong for him.

Valentino Rossi
3rd 1'43.090;

“We’ve got a hard job here because this is one of the most difficult tracks for the surface; you slide so much!

It’s very important to try to find the best traction for the long acceleration areas, and so we’ve tried a lot of different tyres today in order to try to understand what’s going to help us the most.

The grip is worse than normal here today because of the rain overnight and so this is making it even harder, plus with Bridgestone I need quite a different riding style to last year so we have to think about this too.

The setting of Mugello is more or less okay as a base but the important thing is the traction and at the moment we still need to improve this.

As for the livery…it’s the idea of Fiat and so we decided to make the leathers to go with the bike to make me look like a football player!

I think it’s quite funny and it’s just to say ‘in bocca al lupo’ to the Italian team for the European Championships.”

Davide Brivio Team Manager;
“It looks like we’re already quite close, although we definitely have some things we need to work on.
We’ve focused a lot on testing tyres today because this is a very particular track and we have a lot of things to check before we can make our final decision and it will also depend a lot on how hot it gets this weekend.
At the moment we’re just concentrating on collecting as much information as we can and adjusting our setting accordingly.
Anyway, we’re quite happy with this first day’s work. Our livery is something fun and it’s definitely quite funny to see Valentino dressed like a football player!
We want to wish ‘good luck’ to the Italian team for the tournament and now we hope they’ll be doing the same for us on Sunday!”

He is trying way to hard, I think he thought he could come in and show everybody how to ride a bike and it's back firing on him. He thinks it's just like 250's and it's not! Like KC he needs to re think his riding style!

LORENZO RULED OUT

Rossi's team-mate Jorge Lorenzo had an unfortunate opening day at his home race, crashing out of this afternoon's practice. The Spaniard was taken to hospital in Barcelona where the decision was made to withdraw from his home GP.

"1. He suffered head trauma and lost consciousness. We made a neurological examination with a CAT scan and an MRI scan and from this we can confirm that there is no cranial haemotoma or haemorrage. However, he now needs to stay under observation for between 48 and 72 hours to see how this develops.

2. He sustained an injury to the 4th and 5th finger on the right hand, where he has lost some skin. He also has an abrasion of the extensor tendon. We need to see how this develops but it could be possible that he needs a small skin graft.

3. Various other bruises and grazes."

Oh my, poor Jorge.

He should take it easy for a while. And learn not to take too many risks. There is a difference between bravery and pure stupidity... But he will learn, he is only young...
Just hope that they are right and there is no further damage to the brain!!!

Also best wishes to Tito Rabat -he seems a lot worse off than Lorenzo!

From Clinica Mobile

Esteve Rabat was involved in a frightening crash in the first 125cc timed practice session today at Montmelò.

He was promptly and efficiently assisted by the trackside medics who – after positioning a collar – brought him back to the Catalan circuit Medical Centre.

The young Spaniard had not lost consciousness and remembered the accident. He only complained of mild cervical pain and a little confusion. It was decided to accompany him by ambulance to the general hospital of Catalunya and he was perfectly conscious on reaching the hospital. Then the patient suddenly became extremely restless with signs of loss of the state of consciousness, therefore, a pharmacological coma was immediately induced to be able to perform some in-depth tests.

All the performed checks (MRA, CT scan, neuro-surgical and anesthesiologic examinations) fortunately yielded negative results. In the next few hours, when the effects of the medications keeping the young rider in a coma run out, his state of consciousness will be evaluated .

The (negative) results of all the checks and medical examinations performed, and Esteve’s young age, make us feel confident.
