Default tyres: rain dry - 25.04.2008, 18:46

so in the past if a race started on slicks and it rained it was up to the leader/s to decide when it was wet and off they went to have the tyres changed to wets, this caused all sorts of problems with who was where etc aggreate times also played a part (maths lessons anyone)

now the rules changed to having a bike set up in the pit lane with wet tyres on it thus flag to flag race, but i have yet to see this senario...

race starts on slicks after a few laps it is wet so off they go into the pits jump bikes and out again but what happens now if it dries out again ??
do the riders go back to the dry tyre bike (which i guess will be the same tyres)

AND ON THE 8TH DAY GOD CREATED ROSSI..

I dont know if it will be the same tyres... but as you said if it dries off they go and jump on to the dry weather tyres and continue with the race if it dries again...

this flag to flag buisiness is also equally confusing... not in terms of the Math but in terms of the results.... the results usually turn out to be quite the unexpected... which I personally dont like... the guys who are in the front after doing a lot of work have to redo all of their work again cos Motogp doesnt have prescribed pit stops...

but thats how it works for the flag to flag race in case of wet-dry-wet scenario... hope that explanation helped you a little

I believe the rule is, as long as you change to a different type of tyre (cut / slick) when you swap bikes, then you can keep doing it, this means they would be able to pit again, and swap back from wets to the other bike with new slick tyres I presume.

If they have enough tires left maybe it's like tommm said. Or it would be better to try to remain on the tires they have now got rather than costing themselves so much lost time with changing bikes again. A calculated decision that can only be made by the rider at the time I expect.

I'm with Viola... after Motegi, I'm very sour on wet/dry races... was awful watching VR struggle on his slicks after battling to the front (though was one race that really showed what he was about as a rider... cut tyres on a dry track, everyone had the same grip issues, the same lack of traction... and who should get to the front and show em how it's done? VALENTINO ROSSI, that's who! Anyone that wants to argue about sheer skill and who has it and who doesn't, I say look at Motegi... it was a level playing field... tyres stopped being an issue...)
So if they had to go back into the pits a second time to change bikes... would they be allowed to have new tyres on the bike, or would they have to race on the same set they last raced on when they came into the pits?

E.g. Started on slicks, had to come in and change to cut tyres, now the track has dried again, so they come in to go back onto slicks... do the slicks have to be the same ones they started the race on, or can they be new ones?

It's taken one and a half racing seasons, but finally, Rossi has broken Stoner... and smashed him like a guitar!

I heard that in that circumstance where they have to switch bikes, the tank of that bike is usually full. And it seems there is usually just one spare bike... so..its very unlikely they make a second switch of bikes... .....

A second switch would be back onto the original bike, not a 3rd.

Thought you couldn't use the first bike in the race once it had gone inside the garage?
