Valentino needs to change from the 'Long Bang' ie: #1 & #4 Cylinders firing close together and Cylinder #2 and #3 firing close together.

to:

The 'Screamer' firing order, ie: #1, #2, #3, then #4 firing in conventional order like street bikes do. Like Stoner's GP7 does.

They (Ducati and Yamaha) share the same electronics/fuel injectiion system (Magneti Marelli). Last year Ducati changed back to the 'Screamer' firing order and it paid off big time.

I think if Rossi hasn't found the power to catch/pass Stoner in Qatar, then they should really test the 'Screamer' firing order. They left that behind w. the 990cc's because the M1 was too crazy w. the power delivery. They should go back to it now, because the 800cc M1 engine isn't matching the Ducati.

Does anyone know if they have already switched back to conventional firing order on the M1 for 2008?

This is interesting, John. I did not know about the different firing orders. I don't have the answer but thank you for the posting.

I don't know whether they are still using the long bang or the screamer but from the sound of the engine, it does sound like they are still using the conventional. I can tell by the mellow sound compared to the ducs, kawas and hondas. But I might be wrong. Somehow I'm sure that it's still the conventional firing order.

Yamaha Have Said They Are Not Gonna Develop The Screamer Engine ,apperently They Are Working On A Direct Injection Engine Which Is More Economical Than The Current Pneumatic Engine ,and Will Produce 10% More Power When It Can Run At The Current M1`s Revs

So they are "working" on it, good to hear..but when exactly is this going to be produced.. does anybody know?
Will it be at the end of the season, in between.. will it be too late? I guess it will be, I see Vale testing new engines mid-season.. TESTING when he should be RACING!
Lets see what happens I suppose..

all yamaha have said is they have a version of the engine under development that is capable of handling revs somewere between R1 and M1, so we aint gonna see it till at least the second part of the season

My mind is boggling again... more engine stuff! It's too much...

So, if anyone knows, the Yam's pneumatic engine that they will be working on... how does that work exactly compared to traditional engine? (Penumatic valves work on air being used to open and close valves (thanks Tommm), so does that mean air will be used to ... what exactly I'm not sure...

It's taken one and a half racing seasons, but finally, Rossi has broken Stoner... and smashed him like a guitar!
