MotoGP: Valentino Rossi pushing for Bridgestone front qualifier

Valentino Rossi is continuing to push for Bridgestone to roll out a new front qualifying tyre to help bridge the soft rubber advantage held by rivals Michelin.
Michelin has dominated winter testing on qualifying tyres and continued at the season’s first race in Qatar, with Yamaha trio Jorge Lorenzo, James Toseland and Colin Edwards claiming the top three in qualifying. Fiat Yamaha rider Rossi was only seventh on the third row of the grid, and is keen to see Bridgestone develop a soft front tyre, which Michelin has in its armoury.

Valentino Rossi said: “Bridgestone had the front qualifier last year but could not make it perform better than the race tyre.
“I want to push a lot for this because if the front qualifier works it is a big advantage.
“I don’t know when it can be ready but I will push a lot.”

MotoGP: Casey Stoner not fussed about front qualifying tyre

Reigning world champion Casey Stoner says it is not vital that Bridgestone rolls out a new front qualifying tyre in 2008.
pressure One area where Michelin has a clear advantage over Bridgestone at present is with qualifying tyres, and Valentino Rossi recently said he is puttingon the Japanese factory to develop an improved front qualifier. Michelin already has a front qualifier but Aussie Stoner says he isn’t worried at the prospect of having to carry on qualifying with a Bridgestone race tyre.
Casey Stoner won from fourth on the grid in the season’s opening race in Qatar and he said: “My front race tyre works fine with a qualifier and we can use this to have more in our tyre allocation.
“I don’t care about qualifying, we need to be towards the front and it’s not really a big interest of mine to start running front qualifiers.
“As long as I am on the first two rows I’m not bothered. I care more about the set-up on race tyre.”

Capirossi joins Bridgestone Tyre Launch in Jerez

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP racer Loris Capirossi last week attended the international media launch of the new Bridgestone Battlax BT-016 tyre, which uses tyre technology derived directly from MotoGP.

In addition to discussing tyre technology with the specialist bike media, Capirossi completed a handful of laps of the Jerez circuit in Spain, using a Suzuki GSX-R equipped with the new BT-016 Hypersport tyres.

Under the guidance of former GP rider Jeremy McWilliams - who was working with Bridgestone to set up the bikes at the track - Capirossi impressed the attending media and Bridgestone management with his skills around the Jerez circuit, putting the BT-016 through its paces.

The BT-016 is an advanced Hypersport tyre designed to maximise the performance of sports bikes on the road. Bridgestone has combined MotoGP construction methods with its latest multi-compound technology to produce a tyre that gives high-level grip performance in braking, cornering and acceleration. This allows riders to enjoy improved handling, stability and grip – as well as longer life and lower noise.

The next time that Capirossi will be on Bridgestone tyres is when he will be piloting his awesome Rizla Suzuki GSV-R around the Jerez circuit for the second round of the 2008 MotoGP World Championship on Sunday 30th March.

Loris Capirossi:

“I have been a Bridgestone rider for many years, so it was a pleasure to join them last week in Jerez for such an important event. The BT-016 is a great tyre, and gave me a really good feeling, especially at the front, which works really well and is very stable. The rear grip is also good, and it is the first time that I feel the road tyre is similar to the race tyre. I felt immediately comfortable. I now need to get some for my own Suzuki GSX-R1000 which I use on the road!.”

Yes, I really think Casey Stoner is a good rider, funnily enough so do most people who know a lot more than you do.

It's clear to see that you are wearing the hugest pair of Rossi tinted glasses i've ever seen, and will never acknowledge the achievements of anyone who beats him. I can't see how anyone can still question if Stoner is a good rider, when Vale was the only fast Yamaha he was a genius, yet Stoner is the only fast Ducati, and your turning it against him. I don't think he's any better than the other top riders, Vale, Dani etc, he just has really clicked with this package and everyone else needs to catch up.

I have to agree with you Tommm, even though it really hurts to have to admit to Stoner being talented.
For 2 seasons we have tried to put his success down to him being lucky in having the best bike and the best tyres and have watched his team-mate on identical equipment trailing behind dismally.
Surely everyone has to admit that the guy has something about him - he is doing something to make the bike and tyres work for him so that he is able to leave the rest of the field standing. That does not mean that other riders out there are not equally talented...just having to cope with a less effective package (crap tyres and an under-powered engine in at least one case I could mention).
I really do genuinely feel sorry for KC in that he has had to work so hard to prove himself and still many will not accept that some of his success is actually down to him, the rider. He has already shown he is superior to the previous WC who really was a one-season-win-by-a-fluke wonder. Stoner is into his second season and still doing well.
Nor can we put him down and say he is only doing it because of electronic aids - that technology is open to everyone. Everything is evolving, Stoner just happens to be keeping up with progress. We cannot blame him for taking advantage of what is available to him to make him go faster than everyone else...if it makes the racing boring then it is not for him, but for the guys in charge of the sport to reign in some of that technology.
Poor Stoner - will he ever get the credit he deserves? He does from me - but so does Vale, he may not be at the front but he has not given up. He has fought hard for what he thinks is right.
Now that Vale is on the same tyres we can hope that Vale will be able to compete on a more level playing field (once he gets used to how they work with his bike and riding style).

Hahaha tom, even bigger than mine???? Ok joke's aside, it's sometimes hard to accept that someone else is as good as vale, not BETTER just as good. Kc has the bonus of a good package, and we have to hope that Vale will soon have his sorted and be able to fight back for his 7 times WC title.

I agree with you jackie, although it hurts to admit it,(i don't meen agreeing with you ) whatever KC does, we all just want to bash him to the ground.Just because we aknowledge KC's riding abilities, doesn't mean we are being disloyal to VALE, just giving KC the respect as a rider he deserves. NOW, off the bike, well he is still a tosser, but on the bike give him a little credit, just like we'd like other rides fans to give vale.

I like that bit a lot Dee - it makes it soooooo much easier to admit that he has some talent when on the bike, which is only a small fraction of his life. You have made me feel so much better about my earlier admission that KC has talent. Thank you.

I'm not being mean to KC just for the sake of it but because it us fun!

Well...i agree that KC is talented. Especially after the Qatar win. But as i mentioned in the other thread...for example...2006 Valencia GP..where Troy came from nowhere and won the GP...even though it was 990cc era...after that Ducati started rollin. Being a Vale fan...i wanted to knw if there was somethin else other than talent. Ofcourse..even when Vale switched to Yamaha he couldnt have won if the package was not good...the bike was as important as Vale. KC is talented...but statements like these..........

“I don’t care about qualifying, we need to be towards the front and it’s not really a big interest of mine to start running front qualifiers."

"Yes, I really think Casey Stoner is a good rider, funnily enough so do most people who know a lot more than you do."

makes me laugh....
