India eyes MotoGP.Friday, 9th May 2008 The future of the Chinese Grand Prix may be in doubt, but another emerging market, India, is showing interest in hosting MotoGP - and has the support of reigning world champion's Ducati. "This is the right time to enter the market and India is set to become an important destination for premium bikes," said Ducati CEO Gabriele Del Torchio, as the Italian manufacturer introduced its range of exotic motorcycles to India.Yamaha is already selling its 1670cc MT01 cruiser and 1000cc R1 in India, while fellow MotoGP manufacturers Suzuki and Honda are also planning to sell large motorcycles in the near future. In response to this new 'premium bike' market, Del Torchio has already discussed the possibility of an Indian MotoGP with Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports. "I have asked MotoGP CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta to bring the grand prix event to India," Del Torchio told India's Economic Times. "If this event can happen in Qatar, China, Malaysia and Australia, I think India also has a great chance with vast improvements in infrastructure and the F1 circuit plans firming up. If all goes well, we shall have a full-fledged motorcycle racing season in India soon."The Times of India states that the possibility of a MotoGP race has also been raised with the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers and is under discussion with the government."We are exploring the options to get the MotoGP in India and the upcoming Formula 1 track at Greater Noida could be a possible site," said Vicky Chandhok of Federation of Motorsports Clubs in India."It would make sense to use that track not only for the designated F1 event but also for MotoGP and other motorcycling action like Superbike events."India expects to host its first Formula One Grand Prix by 2010.Currently, there are two private racing tracks in India - in Coimbatore and Chennai - but both lack the necessary safety standards and infrastructure for MotoGP.The poorly attended Chinese MotoGP at Shanghai is rumoured to be under threat from a new Hungarian round, from next season, feeding on the country's massive support for 125cc world champion Gabor Talmacsi. With riders and teams likely to oppose any increase on the present 18 round calendar, an existing event would probably need to make way for a new Indian round. Sorry Il dottore, I missed this post and the MCN has now been re-cycled so I only have this copy. I am really sorry and will try to do a better job next time.

Thanks for the article.

I would definitely vote for India over China as I have always preferred Indian food to Chinese and I am largely ruled by my stomach

Aprilia readying V4 motor for GP return

By Matthew Birt

Aprilia bosses have confirmed to MCN that a new V4 engine will begin dyno testing next year as the Italian factory plots a future return to the MotoGP world championship.

No official date has been set for an Aprilia return to MotoGP after the Noale factory quit the premier class at the end of 2004 having struggled to make the three-cylinder Cube machine competitive.

Aprilia boss Gigi Dall’Igna confirmed to MCN that designs of the new motor were currently being worked on.

Aprilia will return to World Superbikes in 2009, but a MotoGP return is on the cards with Dall’Igna confirming Aprilia has no plans to enter the new 250GP four-stroke replacement class.

Dorna boss Carmelo Ezpeleta unveiled the new class last weekend in Le Mans, with capacity between 625 and 650cc, limited revs and controlled ECU.

Aprilia though don’t want to participate in the new class, not least because they don’t have a production 600cc machine like its Japanese rivals.

Dall’Igna told MCN: “We will be back in MotoGP in the future and it will be a V4 motor. For me the V4 is the perfect engine for the 800cc class. For sure Yamaha this year show us that also the in-line four is a very good concept but my opinion is the V4 is the best package.”

Dall’Igna said Aprilia’s new MotoGP would be done completely in-house after heavy involvement from UK-based car engineering company Cosworth on its RS3 990cc machine.

“We will do this project completely in-house. The experience to do a good car engine is not enough to do a good engine for bikes,” added Dall’Igna.

Default Vale in 2009 - 06.06.2008, 05:39

By Mike Nicks

Valentino Rossi's success in winning three consecutive races and soaring to the top of the MotoGP championship may have blocked Yamaha's plans to offer the seven-times world champion a pay cut in 2009, according to the daily Spanish newspaper Sport.

The dynamic pairing of Rossi and 21-year-old Jorge Lorenzo - the dream team that represents both the present and future of MotoGP - has also triggered a rush of blue-chip sponsors eager to replace Fiat as the factory Yamaha team's backers, the newspaper says.

Fiat's contract expires at the end of this year, and the car maker is said to be unlikely to renew its backing. But three or four major Spanish companies, including two banks, an insurance company and a telecommunications organization are ready to talk, according to Sport.

The telecommunications company is said to be Telefonica, who backed Dani Pedrosa in 125 and 250cc competition until the Spaniard moved to MotoGP. The banks may be Caja Madrid and Santander - the latter already active with Yamaha in World Superbikes.

Rossi and Lorenzo may each acquire his separate sponsor, according to the article's author, Germαn G Casanova. And the total price of backing the two riders would be €12m per year, compared to the €6m per year that Fiat has paid in 2007 and 2008.

"No one has denied anything in the article," Casanova told me at Mugello on Sunday night.

His sources indicate that Yamaha were considering offering Rossi a cut from €7m to €5m in 2009. But Rossi's success wave may prompt him to think in the region of €10m a year - €6m from Yamaha and €4m from personal sponsors such as Kerakoli and Nastro Azzurro. He has to pay the Italian tax authorities €30m after his recent tax dispute.

The Doctor expects to sign a new Yamaha contract before the MotoGP summer break begins on July 20, but isn't yet sure if it'll be a one or two year deal.

Rossi is now handling his own negotiations after splitting from his former management team, and said in Mugello this week: "I love being my own manager."

Telefonica ?? Reminds me of Gibernau...
I wonder what would he thinking if Rossi in Telefonica colors next year...

***Btw, WHO else on the grid deserves a raise more than Rossi?...KC??? HA, i think NOT ***

Next year Vale will winning again !!!

I hope it won't be telefonica. in any case. Vale had nice colours 2005.
Maybe some "blue" sponsor again
