I was steering clear of this thread for a while as I could see it becoming a little unpleasant but thankfully it hasn't.
I really do think that Stoner has an immense amount of skill and is someone to watch. In many ways it is a real shame for him that things went so well for him on the Ducati and so badly for Vale, the Yamaha and the Michelin's in the last season because he will never be allowed to take the amount of credit for his World Championship that may well be due to him.
The only way you could ever say that Stoner was better than Vale or vice versa would be if they had been on identical bikes - it didn't happen that way so we cannot make the comparison - but KC is WC.

Very good point and it shows that KC really is a force to be reckoned with - in the same way that you can look at how well Vale did compared to the other Yamaha riders and those using Michelins - only Dani was close and he has heaps of talent, too. But from that you cannot tell if it was the Ducati/Bridgestone combination making the difference or the rider, or a combination of the 2.

Again, I agree - it is a shame really as we could really have done with some good racing last year - not just between Vale and KC but with Dani up there with them as well. Hopefully things will be better in the coming season and, yes, we really should be looking forwards, not back.

He cannot of course be compared to Vale, because he simply hasn't earned that yet.
You put a deceant bike under that 46 and we're back in business , and Stoner will have to take his place in the long line along with the rest of them . |
Yes, true, thinks clicked very well for Stoner but we must not let that take away from his obvious talent. He made the right decision in riding the Ducati and things were right for him - that does not mean he does not still deserve the WC. Perhaps Vale was wrong in staying at Yamaha, should have gone to Ducati. It is all supposition and worthless.
I can't wait to see what the coming year brings but, as a Vale fan I hope it goes much better for him than last year.
I also hope that we do not get one rider with all the luck, even if it is Vale, as another year like the last will destroy the sport.
