They're getting rid of them in F1 to make it as exciting as MotoGP used to be so why the heck doesn't Dorna follow suit?? World Champion in 2008 and greatest rider EVER! | | Junior Second Lieutenant | | Posts: 1,072 Join Date: 06.11.2007 Location: Malaysia Age: 40

It's not just Dorna, FIM as the governing body also should be put to task to get rid of all this for the sake of the sports. Keep it genuine as possible. MERRY XMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR | | Senior Master Sergeant | | Posts: 618 Join Date: 20.08.2007 Location: San Diego, California Age: 21

first, ill say that i completely and totally agree with yall. im a fan of all things oldschool.
-but-
you have to remember, that every year motogp has been around, the bikes used have always been of the highest technology available. motogp is not about seeing who is the best rider, after all, we all know who that is. but anyway, motogp is a place for racing companies to test and experiment with things that have never been tried before, things that are revolutionary. i mean, who among us can honestly say that they thought of putting a GPS on the suspension of a momo and using it to adjust according to where the bike is located on this physical plane? motogp is where we can see what happens when we pair up the highest rider ability with the highest rideability. its all a huge test, like sending chimps into space. the only reason f1 is reverting to straight up steering and slick tires is that it has become unsafe. not, in a way that the cars crash easily, but that the cars go so fast, and have such high cornerspeed that the drivers are starting to pass out under the pressure of immense amounts of G's that are placed on them. a driver (i dont remember his name off hand) even snapped a rib in a turn because he was pulling so many G's. and i guess if you want to go back to the good ole days, when there wasnt any fancy gadgets on all the momos, youre going to have it like it was back in the old days, with MV Agusta having a near monopoly on victory. do you guys see what im saying? even a little? | | Top Second Lieutenant | | Posts: 1,753 Join Date: 27.06.2007

First of all, yes i agree that racing circuits are tech testing grounds for further technlogies to be applied on street legal machines. There's no doubts that we have accept the evolution of technologies.
The problem arises when technologies, to be specific, electronic gadgets are the one to play the biggest part in winning or losing. That is when the sports loses it's appeal. Why nascar and oval track is still the center of attention of motorsports in U.S? It's because there is where the you can see the difference of boys and men. Gadgeteries are kept to the minimum in Nascar.
I'm not against development and i think no one here is against it too. It's just that control it so that it is still the rider that plays the role of winning. Don't let it be in such a way, the team with strong financial back ups will get all the electronic toys to play with and the rest are being handicapped.
For safety reason, yes, we are all for it but we want to see the most skillfull rider in terms of genuine ability to ride the bike to the max to come out the best at the end of the day
Anyway, soopa, thanks for the opinion because this is where healthy discussion can take us to a better understanding of the sports. Appreciate it. MERRY XMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR | | Senior Captain | | Posts: 4,231 Join Date: 02.07.2007 Location: Ukraine, Kharkov/ Ucrainia, Charkov Age: 18

and look around...
I can't understand it either, though they may suppose that braking records
that's achieved through putting technique on higher level is more exiting then
competition itself... No other explanations... Ars longa, vita brevis... | | Senior Captain | | Posts: 4,231 Join Date: 02.07.2007 Location: Ukraine, Kharkov/ Ucrainia, Charkov Age: 18

increasing pilots role in winning or loosing. And alas in our case this things
can't equally present in motoracing to my mind: you or turn into a cyber
pilot, or show all your skills with minimum electronics needed.
Bikes don't have to be turned into a toy - it's a tool, a tool of winning.
And all this gadgets...They vanish the clear-cut distinction between what
was achieved with natural talent and what - with all that el. stuff.
Just my point Ars longa, vita brevis...
