Dr Costa:
ABE, A SMILE
Japanese, with a history of thousands of years that only Orientals can fully decipher.
Long hair, perhaps because hair symbolises and contains strength, universally, although Samson is a Western myth.
A bike in green and orange shades, at a time when colour still only belonged with flower beds and gardens in Japan.
An arrow shot towards the sky of desire, making even the brightest stars look duller.
Just a hint of a smile on his lips, but an explosion in his eyes. Perhaps because with that smile, Abe wanted to achieve his life’s wish: to win, to win not just races, but his inner thoughts, and turn victory into happiness.
Next to the wreck of his bike, his eyes, just before closing, smiled to the crazy lorry which had just cruelly killed him.
And while all the riders and paddock people, on the start line of the Australian GP at Phillip Island last week [photo], sadly bowed their heads to remember a lost friend, Norifumi was still smiling: he was right there, Atlantic ocean splashes rippling that hint of a smile, lighting up thousands of rainbows.
