Season 2008 - 125s: Smith set to reject Aprilia offer
Eurosport - Thu, 26 Jul 09:38:00 2007
EXCLUSIVE: Britain's Bradley Smith looks set to reject a factory Aprilia ride in next year's 125cc World Championship in favour of staying loyal to his mentor Alberto Puig.
The 16-year-old starlet has recieved an official offer from Aprilia for 2008, with the Italian manufacturer wanting to place him with reigning champions Team Aspar.
But he told eurosport.yahoo.com that his number one goal for next season is to remain with Puig, even though is unclear whether that means staying with his current team Repsol Honda or moving to KTM.
"I've got a few options on the table and first thing for me is that I want to stay with Alberto and the team," Smith told eurosport.yahoo.com. "Whatever they come up with I have to take into deep consideration.
"They're the ones that have got me there and also I believe they are the best team in the paddock, maybe not in terms of the bike but certainly in terms of the people there."
Puig, a former Moto GP race winner, has been approached by Austrian manufacturer KTM, who want him to join their organisation in a similar management role to the one he current performs for Repsol Honda.
Staying in cahoots with him would be a wise choice for Smith, who became the first Briton for 18 years to finish on a 125cc podium earlier this season at Le Mans, as Puig was the man who oversaw Dani Pedrosa's rise through the ranks to Moto GP.
