Dovizioso not fazed by Rossi
Rookie Andrea Dovizioso has said he has put aside his idolisation of Italian compatriot Valentino Rossi and only wants to beat him.

The JiR Team Scot rider shocked many on his debut in the maiden MotoGP night race in Qatar by overtaking five-times world champion Rossi, who rides for the factory Yamaha team, for fourth position.

"Before this year it was a dream to fight with Valentino; but now I am in the same class and I want to beat him," Dovizioso said.

"It is very difficult because he has the most talent [of anyone], but I beat him in my first race and finished very near to him in Barcelona.

"It is very, very nice to fight with Valentino, but also with [reigning champion Casey] Stoner and [Dani] Pedrosa."

After 11 rounds Dovizioso is the highest-placed satellite rider in the world championship standings, holding fifth place with a best race finish of fourth - achieved on three occasions.

The former 125cc world champion and 250cc title contender has his sights set on securing a factory Honda ride for 2009.

Rossi currently leads the title chase by 25 points from reigning champion Stoner.

As much as I would love to see Dovi win a race this year, I'm sort of stuck as I really want for Valentino to regain his crown..


Dovi is riding very well and could possibly even get on the podium yet, but hopefully by displacing Casey and not Vale..


Why do my 2 fav riders have to be racing against each other It was all so much easier when Dovi was in 125 and 250!!

Perhaps they can have a draw / tie each race..

Bugger that.... Andrea is just way back in the pecking order... he's younger than VR and is yet to pay his dues... that means you wholeheartedly support VR until he retires... which still leaves Andrea plenty of years ahead of him to win races and possibly WCs... but I'll be going for Simoncelli, I think! LOL.

I like Dovi - I think he likes to race, too - unlike Moaner...

As for Lorenzo, I do have a bit of a soft spot for him, too - he's just like - dare I say it - Vale with his antics....I prefer him to Dani anyway!

Dovi is great, but he's not gonna win this year - Vale is! Or at least I really hope so!!!
