Definition
Motion sickness is the body's response to conflicting messages about motion that are sent to the brain. The conflict is between what the eyes see and what the body senses.
What is going on in the body?
Information about motion and how the body is moving is obtained through the eyes and two places within the inner ear. This information is then sent to the brain so that the body can respond by coordinating muscles and maintaining balance. Information from these parts may indicate that a person is walking, doing hand stands, or even cartwheels. Other information is about the surface under a person or the area surrounding them. For instance, a person on top of a surfboard may not be moving but the surfboard and the water under the person is moving. Signals about the movement of the water and the surfboard are sent to the brain. These signals give information that helps the person to balance on the surfboard. When the brain receives one message from the eyes and another message from the inner ears, a person may feel the symptoms of motion sickness.
Different factors, such as speed, may cause motion sickness. Slow movement up and down while accelerating forward is more likely to stimulate motion sickness rather than fast movement up and down. For instance, more people feel motion sickness while riding a camel than riding a horse. Motion sickness is often reported while traveling aboard ships, but not while windsurfing.
Conflicting information regarding motion can be seen when a person is traveling on a ship looking out at the waves in the ocean. The inner ear perceives the up and down motion of the body riding on the ship, while the eyes perceive the random forward movement of the waves.
Another type of conflicting message occurs when the inner ear perceives movement while the eyes detect no movement. This can occur while standing or sitting still inside a moving ship or vehicle with no windows to visually explain the movement. It can also happen when a person is trying to read when traveling in a car. The inner ear perceives the movement of the car but the eyes detect no movement.
What are the signs and symptoms of the condition?
Motion sickness is a normal response to an abnormal situation. It indicates that the feedback system of the eyes, inner ear, and the brain is healthy. The most common symptoms of motion sickness are nausea and vomiting. A person may also turn pale in color, and break out into a cold sweat. An increase in oral secretions, yawning, fast breathing, headache, and drowsiness may also occur.

According to Suppo "at the moment the cause of the sickness is hard to determine". Which is why they are bringing in new parts for Laguna Seca, not for the bike but for KC. Wether it is new brains, new stomach, or new head, its still not yet corfirmed. But one thing Suppo vowed, Stoner will not use the scaphoid alibi this year.
So for the dearest fans out there, the new buzzword in the Ducati garage and official for 2009 is "Stomach". Expect it more during interviews.
Get well soon KC :-) hope the new body parts fits you.
Maybe it's not where an athelete's from
that makes us root for them
Maybe it's not the flag on their back
or the anthem that we hear when they win
that makes us cheer
Maybe it's that they are human
and we are human
and when they succeed, we succeed

Interesting idea but motion sickness is easy to diagnose and treat and Casey's illness has so far baffled the doctors......
Ok I'm gonna give KC the benefit of the doubt,
His condition is strange, I'm gonna give him the benefit as the turnaround fro Assen to Laguna is very short.
Flying from europe to California in the space of a few days is not ideal recovery conditions for someone who seems to have a genuine sickness (to me anyway )
Plus its very common for athlete's to suffer from gastro intestinal problems. Its down to the speed of the metabolism.
I know from experience , if you dont have enough calories, the stomach tries to find something to burn, which if there's nothing to burn, the stomach acid burns the lining of the stomach causing ulscers over time.
In the short term it can cause excessive stomach pain and vomiting and diarrohea.
Anyone remember D Beckham puking on the pitch during the world cup and Paula Radcliffe dropping out of the olympics.
Anxiety of pressure can also trigger these symptons (which could be causing KC's problems)
Its very normal for rugby, soccer players to vomit in the changing rooms before a game, Some players wont be able to focus unless they puke before they play, it steadies the nerves.
Maybe KC is turning into a human and his brain has clicked in that he is doing something dangerous,
Maybe he is having doubts and realises that the way he wrestles the Duke around the track is crazy.
Which it is, I think we all agree the way he rides that duke is crazy, he just shows no fear and rides on the limit every lap and doesn't mind it bucking and shaking, he just gets on it with it.
Even on the honda he didn't give a shit and crashed spectacularly every week just got up and walked away.
Now that he has a wife and she probably nags him about it and talks about kids etc and maybe someone has hit the on switch in his head and he's distracted.
Remember when Vale was with Arianna for 2 years, 06, 07 the 2 worst years of his career. People questioned Valess hunger and passion,
He was too busy looking at houses and spending time partying with her
it cause problems between Vale and Uccio and basically took his mind away from the job
OMG I have to comment on this one as if I would die if I don't. I'm such a fool to think that the scaphoid wil ne be used again.
i never cursed on this site yet but i just can't f#$@$%#@ belive it!
STONER @ motogp.com “Today I didn’t feel as bad at the end of the race as I have done in the last two, but I’m still not right,” he added, referring to his physical condition that has suffered over the past month. The fatigue also brought with it the return of a previous problem in his scaphoid. “I found it really difficult to keep my concentration over the last few laps and I was in a bit of a daze by the end. My left arm was feeling really tired by the end because of the fact there are so many left-handers here and my left wrist still doesn’t have the full range of movement after my operation in the winter,” he explained. “Now we’ll focus on trying to find out the root of the problem because racing in this condition is not much fun.”

PMSL - WHAT A TOSSER!!! Just accept it Casey, you won in 2007 because you had far superior bike, that advantage is gone and you've got to accept you are just not as good as you thought and stop scrabbling around for excuses.
