The 35-year-old Spaniard will ride alongside Ducati's official test rider Vittoriano Guareschi for three days at the Italian Grand Prix venue to assist the team's development programme with both the current GP8 and the 2009 bike that made its debut in post-race testing in Spain earlier this week.
"I'm honoured by this possibility that Ducati has given me," said Gibernau. "I'm very excited and I'm in perfect shape, even if it has been a while since I have been on a GP bike.
"It is just a test but I'll give my absolute maximum. I can't wait to enjoy once again the feeling of bringing a MotoGP machine to its limit."
Gibernau decided to step away from the sport at the end of an injury-blighted season with Ducati in 2006, but he returned to the paddock at last weekend's Catalunya race.
"We were happy to see Sete so excited at the possibility of riding a MotoGP bike again, and it was this enthusiasm that led to the possibility of organising this test together," said team director Filippo Preziosi.
"The tests we carried out with the GP9 in Catalunya earlier this week gave good feedback and, by having Sete and Vito testing alongside each other, we will be able to carry out a wide range of more intensive tests with our GP8 and GP9 machines." fromautosport | Whoa, this is surreal. You know how a lot of sportsmen retire, but then keep making comebacks? In Australia, Jeff Fenech comes to mind... Aussie Joe Bugner, Lisa Curry Kenny... Terry Lamb... Alfie Langer... god, there are heaps more, just can't think of them. But in other words, their retirement lasted all of two months or something.
I really thought Petty Sete was a keeper for retirement. To hear he's all excited about getting on a gp bike again... ok... testing is one thing, racing another... but is it only me who can hear a door creaking open? It's taken one and a half racing seasons, but finally, Rossi has broken Stoner... and smashed him like a guitar! I wonder if he ever was going to retire or just took some time out to lick his wounds from all the scraps with Vale? If he does return it sure will be interesting!! can't wait for the new season to begin not moving from here 'til it does! | | Captain | | Posts: 3,652 Join Date: 17.01.2007 Location: Brisbane Queensland Australia | | |

So, anyone know how old Sete went in testing? Did he give any sound bites about how good it felt, how well he did... and he's now looking for a ride in 2008? It would be pretty interesting if he came back - you're right Janina - especially him and KC... wonder how that would go...
