Default Questions For Aussies! - 02.08.2007, 15:27

Ciao my friends!

I have some questions for who can help me about the kind of life in Australia.
Now I've the subscription to Australia-Italia association.
My dream is: visit Australia (probably next year..January I hope) with my family and after start a project.
My project actually is open an italian eating house.

Here's what I mean: genuine italian dishes in a little nice pub.(from my mother and granmas cookery notes)

Now I'm 45yrs old ( I know..I'm Jurassic!! ) and I've two kids (10yrs and less than one month), but I know this is what we wish.
I hope two years the dream come true.

All info about "where" "what" "how" or "ya, I listened they're searching for an italian partner...." or what you, that you live in Australia, think can be useful for me, I ask you, if is possible, you teach me here.

I'm very thankful from now, all our aussies rossifans!!!!

Sydney and Melbourne are more "upmarket" areas than Brisbane is. Brisbane is like your laid back country town compared to them but we are getting better.

Tourist areas in Queensland are along the coast, like Cairns, The Islands and Port Douglas.

This is the link to the Italain Consulate in Brisbane. They might be able to anser some of your questions.

Good luck

Also I found this link

It's about Italian week in Brisbane, it could be helpful

Mak, come to Tasmania, it is cheaper to set up in and very tourist orientated.
Plus the fact I am here and we need more authentic Italian food down here, the air is pure , great for kids, not so choked up as major cities.
We have the best seafood and produce in the world in Tassie. Google Tasmania and have a look for yourself, you wont be disappointed. Your children will live in one of the most beautiful places god has created.

@ MAK...What Grizzy said is all very true!!

Tasmania is a lovely place. Totally unspoilt like the rest of the country.

If you have ever been to New Zealand?? The countryside is very similar in Tassie.

Oh and then you are only "across" the Bass Strait to Phillip Island!!

Mak just to let you know that if you come for a holiday in January this is peak season, xmas, school holidays and you will pay a fortune to stay anywhere. Maybe March or April or September is better.

January is also our summer, so if you are not fond of the heat I would change months.

Oh and a word of warning do not go out at night, the kangaroos and crocodiles roam the streets. (disguised as Stoner Fans)

Brisbane & Perth and probably the nicest cities in Australia.

Sydney is a bit arrogant and selfish for me

Melbourne i love (it's where i live at the moment), but it's a bit dull because of the weather.

Melbourne has a huge Italian, Maltese, Greek & Macedonian pressence which is awesome, i've eaten so much Baclava since moving here i think i'll need a truck just for my bum when i leave.

Sydney & Melbourne are huge dinning out cities.

Talking about food, i'm off the Crown casino for a Chicken parma & chips then off to the gift trade fair.

Mak you should come to MELBOURNE! (It's a better city than all the rest! )

If you wan to open a restaurant I think the best place is Lygon Street in a town called Carlton (about 3/4km from Melbourne CBD). Lygon Street is very well know for it's Italian food and culture - and it is a complete mad house during the Formula 1! Try http://www.lygonst.com.

Not that it's really relevant, but my favourite is Brunetti's - I don't think i've ever seen so many sweets!!! They have pastry chefs that work 24/7! (I'm a sucker for their canoli )

Although further out of the city (about 30mins) is the Bayside area of Melbourne. It's quite a wealthy area and includes the towns of Brighton, Hampton, Sandringham, Black Rock, Beaumaris - and all of these towns have very busy restaurant/cafe strips and have a wide variety of food styles (Casa Nova in Hampton is quiet nice - though very relaxed not snobbish!)

Plus being in Melbourne - it's only 1 1/2 hours from Phillip Island!

Hope this helps Mak!

See Ya
Mel

GREATS! ALL OF YOU ARE GREATS!

I'm very exciting in reading your posts.
No book, no travel cd, nothing can help me more than you, that you live there!

When I do the "LOGIN" I open quickly this section.

I try to learn more about Australia and the association I subscrived (I think he most important about, in Italy) will let me to the right know how.

But your explanations are important more than a treasure!

If you wish, go ahead, I am so glad to read you!!!

What's about Chicken Parma?

In Italy we've Parma Ham that is a quality of ham into the top five of hams, genuine origin very protected by european laws about food.
http://www.prosciuttodiparma.com/usa/contact/

It fights for first place with S.Daniele's Ham, a production placed in north east Italy, http://www.prosciuttosandaniele.it/en/home.asp

But Chicken Parma...if it is this one...http://www.superparma.com/#

OH MY GOD!

You're eating something as far as possible from italian food!!!

Bleahhhhhh!!!

Using the best respect for you my friend, I'm start to understand what's Italian cuisine out of Italy.
I think they tease other people and call as "italian food" something that is totally different....
(but Superparma...do you call this as "food"????? )
