no idea why they call him uccio
or what that name means...

I think 'Uccio' is the short name of his surname: sal-ucci + o
It's very common in Italy and Spain makes short names and surnames, hope it helps.

yes I thought about that, too...

but don't they pronounce it very diffrent

well everybody calls him uccio I never heard anybody call him alessio...

No, it has the same pronunciation, you only add the 'o'
