You are also so lucky to have cats and a dog. My son is very asthmatic so we can't have either - while my little bird is sweet, you can't really cuddle him although they are certainly better than the African land snails which were our previous pets!

How strange Jrcambs having a bird and not getting a reaction with your son....my son has asthma and is really bad with my dads parrot although after about a week of being with a dog he sort of desensitizes (in the summer I always wipe down any dogs we've had with a damp cloth to get all the pollen from the dogs coat.) I suppose everyone has a different trigger to their asthma, I knew a girl who's mother died because she sat next to someone wearing a new perfume that gave her a bad asthma attack.

Yeah I'm very lucky to have these animals and I wouldn't give them up for anything in the world...(hmm....but if Vale is in the picture it's going to be a hard decision haha no just kidding )

Toby is not allergic to all dogs and cats, just some of them but when he does have a reaction it is very dramatic, so it is just not worth the risk. My daughter is really disappointed and has asked if we could get rid of Toby and get a dog instead. On occasions this has seemed like a good option! He is fine with the bird though - just as well as we had the bird first and would find it hard to part with him.

Or, get rid of both kids and get 2 dogs or a dog and a cat! (the fighting would not be any worse).
